About Us

The Human Health Project began in California in 2006 as a non-profit organization when its founder, Dr. Phil Harrington, M.D., decided to create a platform for medical professionals to discuss rare and unusual health problems. The idea came from personal experience - for three years he went from doctor to doctor and struggled to find a diagnosis for his own illness. Even with access to modern healthcare and a background in medicine, the answers were still elusive, and the process was frustrating. For someone without the same access to healthcare, such as a patient in a developing nation, the challenge would have been even greater. This experience was telling of the lack of integration among the medical sciences and sparked the idea for the Human Health Project.

Since it began, Dr. Harrington, volunteers, and donors have worked to make the Human Health Project a reality. It has grown from a simple idea into a developed social networking platform, and in May 2011, the Human Health Project was made live. Members of the HHP will confidentially post difficult medical cases and receive comments from other health professionals around the world. As the social network grows, case outcomes will enter an evidence-based knowledge database, which members will access for treatment options and historic case evidence.

The Human Health Project team seeks to weave an international tapestry of patient and health advocacy through innovative web-based technologies. This will form an advocacy community of health professionals and patient advocates around the world, and members of this community will have access to diverse medical backgrounds and approaches to healthcare. Through this vision, the Human Health Project seeks to provide information on health solutions as a basic right for all.
